Bolhão Market
Traditional market with fresh produce and crafts
Bolhão Market (Mercado do Bolhão) is a vibrant centerpiece of daily life in Porto, offering visitors an authentic taste of the city’s culinary and cultural traditions. Located at Rua Formosa 322 and conveniently adjacent to Bolhão Metro Station, the market is easily accessible by public transport. Following a major renovation and reopening in 2022, Bolhão Market now features a clean, well-organized layout while retaining its lively, bustling atmosphere.
Open Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturdays until 6:00 p.m. (closed Sundays), the market is best experienced in the morning when the stalls are brimming with fresh produce and the energy is at its peak. Entry is free, and visitors can wander among 80 stalls offering everything from fruits, vegetables, meats, and seafood to regional cheeses, breads, flowers, and local handicrafts. Several bakeries, coffee shops, and small wine and seafood counters provide opportunities to sample Portuguese specialties or enjoy a quick snack.
Bolhão Market is not just a place to shop—it’s a window into Porto’s everyday rhythms and a gathering spot for locals and travelers alike. Whether you’re picking up picnic supplies, tasting petiscos (Portuguese snacks), or simply soaking up the atmosphere, a visit to Bolhão Market is an essential Porto experience that celebrates the city’s flavors and community spirit.
